Independent Study Says Bid Program Could Lead to Decline in Patient Choice, Access, and Quality
The first independent study focused on the patient impact of the “competitive” bidding program for HME predicts that the program may produce a number of negative outcomes, including fewer choices, reduced access to care, and lower quality products for Medicare beneficiaries who depend on home medical equipment and services. The health economics consulting firm Dobson DaVanzo & Associates conducted an extensive literature review as well as interviews with representatives from patient advocacy groups, beneficiaries, discharge planners, academic experts, and the HME community.
AAHomecare encourages all HME professionals to use the talking points from the study for meetings with your Representatives and Senators during the remaining weeks of the congressional recess.
